In today’s competitive job market, just getting the interview is of course no guarantee that you have the job. The task of showing a complete stranger (in most cases), who has most likely seen 20 carbon copies of you sitting in that very chair already this morning, that you’re something special, is one of the most confusing and pressured filled aspects of getting a job. You not only have to get your message across in the crammed-in time slot you’ve been allocated, but you also have to do it in the most agreeable form possible; it’s not a step in the right direction if the interviewer can’t relate to what you’re telling them.
